Spawning?

Attention Minecrafters, I think it is time that we make more definite rules regarding item spawning.

The history of spawning
At the start of the server there was a strict anti-spawning rule. No items would be spawned, and no players would be op-ed. After a while, Seth and I wanted to build the Minecraft Challenge, a project which would be very difficult to make with legitimate materials. Seth was op-ed so that he could spawn items strictly for the construction of this project. These ops quickly grew to include me, Kyle, and Robert. All players had to do to receive spawned items was to say they were building a huge project which they could not make otherwise. I requested to Paul that he de-op all of the ops, and he did so. However, he still spawned items for people making "projects." My point is that most of these projects do not require spawning at all. Sure, it's nice to have walls made out of obsidian, but couldn't cobblestone suffice if it is against the rules to break blocks?

Spawning now
Recently Robert and Kyle have been op-ed once again, this time to reimburse lost plane items. Although this is a legitimate cause, I fear that power corrupts and these ops might spawn themselves items. If these spawned items leaked into our new economy, they could destroy it. I feel that to get rid of this problem we need a complete overhaul of the spawning rules. I propose that we ban all spawning, even for projects, and that we de-op all ops immediately and permanently. Please feel free to weigh in about your opinions on this matter.

Building something great out of materials you painstakingly gathered is the greatest reward.

Yes I agree.... And for permissions, I say we give Paul everything but the ability to spawn. I know from single player cheating that it just gets boring. And since the nether was added, we have an easy food source, netherrack, soul sand, and glowstone. nothing else needs to be added. If it is okay with you Paul, I would personally liked to de-op everyone.

I disagree with no spawning for large-scale projects. However, your concern about too much spawning IS legitimate, and there should be stricter laws. However, the fact of the matter is that for some projects the only way to do it right is through some item spawning. For example, it would be nearly impossible to have hollowed out the spleef arena without the help of spawned TNT.

Item spawning is out of control and it is something that must be dealt with, but I think your idea of no spawning whatsoever is a little on the extreme side. I think there should be written up project proposals which must be submitted to me and then approved by important players on the server.

YES! Make a project proposal part of the fourms. every project must be approved before starting, at least the big ones. This can be made easier once the VOIP gets going.

This is a great idea Bandit. I will get right to work on adding a new section to the forum. Also, I will not be removing my spawn privileges. There are too many things that would be impractical without them, especially minecart track. Yes I realize there is a free adminshop, but its an awful pain to walk that far to get what is essentially spawned items when I can just give someone track much more easily with the ability to spawn it.

I agree with Owen that there should be no spawning. But if there is spawning for large scale projects then Paul should be the only op.

I will make the appropriate edits to the permissions folders... I need to talk to paul about permissions updates and stuff like that since I seem (and correct me if I'm wrong) to know the most about permissions and the other commands... I would like to make it so that there is a specific group with commands to build war arenas that is different from the "player" command set... If you would like to weigh in on this let me know...

I would also purpose allowing these players to also have the /gme command for obsidian (and potentially a diamond pic) ONLY... to allow for the creation of blast proof rooms since players will be using TNT in the arena. If you wish to weigh in on this please let me know as well

I have heard there is a fee admin shop for TNT? This should be taken down. If TNT is spawned at all, it should just be for people who submit a project application. It's not like it is impossible to get, I built my monster spawner for a reason. Also I have a TNT shop and if someone was feeling mean and greedy they could spawn themselves a ton and sell it at my shop. DO NOT DO THIS. This is exactly the kind of thing I was worried about with the economy. Also I think it would be a mistake to let people spawn their own obsidian and diamond picks.

UPDATE: I have been assured that this admin shop does not exist. No need for alarm.

Owen I totally agree with you, there is no such shop to my knowledge, and if there is I will see to its removal.
